We don’t sit down and watch a lot of television programming while it’s actual on, but do watch it on DVD and try to eventually watch some of the stuff the Tivo yanks off the cable line for us.
Lately we’ve been going through DVD’s of The Closer as soon as they arrive from NetFlix. I was surprised that this show was so good, with interesting characters, an excellent cast, captivating storylines and fantastic overall writing. The third season is on now and the characters just continue to get more interesting. I was involved in some post-production VOD work on season three and, after just a few minutes, found myself seriously intrigued. Now our family has become all out fans. DVD’s of seasons one and two are available, and season three is currently on the air for watching while it airs on TNT or for watching later via Tivo (or your favorite time-shifting method).
I can’t end this post without mentioning Corner Gas, a Canadian television program, which is coming to Superstation WGN in the United States on Monday, September 17. We have the first three seasons on DVD and just love it (season four is coming soon). I hope it does well in the US but worry about it’s chances since it isn’t a reality show or a game show, isn’t about cheating spouses and isn’t disgusting and gross. It’s just funny. Good luck Corner Gas, we’re pulling for you.

Ran across the following information on The Macintosh Biblioblog and find it an interesting perspective…

“Jesus Camp” Review:
I’m not a fan of Michael Moore. I think he’s a bully; never saw the anti-Bush propanda film. But this Jesus Camp, the latest of his sensational documentaries intrigues me. I might try and see it. From a review by David Byrne:
It focuses on a woman preacher (Becky Fischer) who indoctrinates children in a summer camp in North Dakota. Right wing political agendas and slogans are mixed with born again rituals that end with most of the kids in tears.
Ever since I heard The West Wing make the point that “Al Qaida is to Islam as the KKK is to Christianity,” I’ve long thought that some extreme aspects of today’s religious right differs very little in methodology in terms of unquestioning indoctrination.
The most profound question the review makes is to ask
how did accepting the evidence for climate change and global warming become anti-Jesus?
Why has the religious right jumped on this anti-climate change self-deception? I can only think that it is a result from lying in bed with corporate conservatives (with a clear stake in the issue) within the Republican party for the sake of political success.
I really, really think God wanted us to take care of the earth. ::shrug::

For those unfamiliar with the concept, Reality Television is an oxymoron.
When cameras are present, reality isn’t.
