Sky

Shot this photo of the sky looking beyond the top of a parking deck. The clouds caught my eye.

Andrew Bird and Calexico at Cobb Energy Center

Anne and I saw Calexico and Andrew Bird last night at the Cobb Energy Center in Atlanta.

Calexico turned out to be really great live, with lots of energy. We could have listened to them for much longer, but since they were the opening act, their set was fairly short.

Andrew Bird certainly more of a performance than a concert. He’s a great musician, but he was certainly putting on a show, especially compared to Calexico, who were there because they obviously love playing music.

Here are some crappy low light iPhone shots from the concert.

Foggy Atlanta Morning

When we left the house this morning it was sunny. I hopped on the train to downtown and emerged from the transit station to find a different world. An eerie mist has settled over the city and it also lowered the temperature almost to the point of being cool. I love it.

Work

This shot is a few days old, before the stormy weather returned, and shows the campus where I work. You can’t miss these buildings if you drive through downtown Atlanta.

Nasty Clouds

Nasty looking weather seems to be moving in. The end of the drought in Georgia apparently means that our exciting afternoon weather has returned.

Midtown Congestion

It isn’t just the cars clogging up Atlanta these days. These buildings seem to be taking over West Peachtree Street.

14th St. Lights

The light poles in this photo must be at least 100′ tall and are awesome to see in person. These are part of the new 14th Street bridge project. I saw them on the ground before they went up and didn’t really think much of them. It’s a different story when they’re in the air.

Last Time In Athens?

We were in Athens, GA over the weekend, moving Elizabeth out of her apartment. I just realized that this may have been my last trip there, at least for the forseeable future, and I’m going to miss certain things about the place.

There are a lot of good restaurants there. We had dinner at Inoko Sushi Express, an inexpensive Japanese place, and it was great as usual. The Grit remains one of my favorite restaurants on earth, and there is always time to grab a coffee from Jittery Joes.

However, I will not miss the drivers in Athens. Atlanta drivers can be bad, mostly because Georgia does not think drivers education is important (even if the new driver is from another country), but the drivers in Athens seem to have come to a group decision to make up for their lack of skill with speed and lunacy. Good times.

Midday Atlanta Traffic

Here’s a shot of downtown Atlanta interstate traffic at about 1:00 PM this afternoon. Pretty light today.

iTunes is playing This Time Around from the album “Stop All The World Now” by Howie Day

Atlanta Traffic Photo

Here is a shot from last week. Traffic tends to be lighter during the summer and this shot is proof. Unfortunately it doesn’t capture the chaos that is moments away from any tranquil moment in Atlanta traffic. Someone is certain to cross several lanes of traffic and make some daring manuever any minute now.
